Travel through the Waikato countryside to Hobbiton Movie Set, explore with an official guide and enjoy lunch, then continue to Waitomo for its limestone cave and glowworm grotto before returning privately to Auckland.
Your vehicle and driver are exclusively for your group. English-language sightseeing commentary is provided during the drive. The official guided experiences at Hobbiton and Waitomo, and dining at Hobbiton, may be shared with other visitors; private attraction tours are not included.
Your package includes private transport, admission to both attractions, lunch as described, bottled water, normal parking charges and GST. Choose your vehicle option and enter the actual number of guests in each age category to calculate the complete package price.
The planned twelve-hour duration runs from your scheduled 7:00 am accommodation pickup to return drop-off around 7:00 pm. It includes driving, both attraction visits, lunch, check-in time and comfort stops. Return timing may vary with traffic and confirmed admission arrangements.
Your NZ Travel Company booking confirmation is issued automatically. Admission times at both Hobbiton and Waitomo, and dining arrangements, remain subject to availability and separate confirmation by us. We will contact you promptly if changes are required and obtain your agreement before proceeding with an alternative. If we cannot secure both admissions or agree on a suitable alternative, we will offer an alternative date or a full refund of your package payment.
Two iconic experiences.
One private journey.
Follow your planned twelve-hour journey below, with photographs alongside the relevant attraction and expandable additional views. Durations are estimates; both attraction departures and lunch arrangements are confirmed separately.
Auckland Accommodation Pickup & Waikato Countryside
Depart from your booked accommodation and travel south through the Waikato countryside towards Matamata. A short comfort stop can be arranged where practical. Your confirmed Hobbiton departure determines the final arrival and check-in arrangements.

Hobbiton Movie Set — Official Guided Tour
Explore the Shire with an official Hobbiton guide, discovering its distinctive Hobbit Holes, gardens and film locations. Admission is included in the total package price. The guided Movie Set experience may be shared with other visitors. We supply your confirmed admission time and check-in instructions separately.

Lunch — Hobbiton or an Agreed Alternative Venue
We aim to provide the Hobbiton Tour and Lunch Combo, featuring a buffet lunch in the Party Marquee, subject to availability. If the combo is unavailable but standard admission is available, we may propose lunch at an alternative café or restaurant, including one main meal and one non-alcoholic drink per person at no additional charge. Additional food and drinks are at your own expense. We will confirm the proposed arrangements and obtain your agreement. Dietary requirements are subject to confirmation.
On to Waitomo, then back to Auckland.
Waikato Countryside — Hobbiton to Waitomo
Continue through the Waikato countryside towards Waitomo. Travel time depends on traffic and the confirmed lunch venue. Your driver coordinates the journey around the booked cave departure and required check-in time.

Waitomo Glowworm Caves — Official Guided Experience
Join the official guided experience through limestone formations and the glowworm grotto, with a boat ride subject to water levels and operating conditions. Admission is included; this attraction visit may be shared with other guests. The route includes steps and is not wheelchair accessible. Photography and filming are not permitted inside Waitomo Glowworm Caves. Follow the attraction guide’s instructions.
Return Journey & Auckland Accommodation Drop-off
Relax on the private return journey to Auckland, with accommodation drop-off planned around 7:00 pm. A comfort stop can be arranged where practical. Traffic, weather and confirmed attraction arrangements may affect the return time.
The planned twelve hours include accommodation pickup, driving, both attraction visits, lunch, check-in and comfort stops, and return drop-off. These estimates are planning allowances rather than fixed appointments; time may be redistributed around confirmed attraction sessions and traffic. Hobbiton and lunch are planned before Waitomo. Any proposed material change will be discussed with you. Customer-requested extensions require availability and an agreed additional charge.

How is the twelve-hour tour time allocated?
The planned twelve hours run from your 7:00 am accommodation pickup to return drop-off around 7:00 pm. Allow approximately 2½–3 hours outbound including a comfort stop and Hobbiton check-in, 2½ hours for the Hobbiton guided visit, one hour for lunch, 1½ hours to Waitomo, 45 minutes for the cave visit plus 30 minutes for check-in, and 2¾–3 hours back to Auckland.
These are planning estimates, not fixed appointments. Hobbiton and lunch are planned first, followed by Waitomo. Confirmed attraction sessions, the lunch venue, traffic and comfort stops determine the final allocation and may affect return timing. We confirm both admission times and dining arrangements separately.
Is the tour private, and is there a minimum group size?
Your Auckland transport and driver are exclusive to your booked group. One person can book a group option; no minimum operating passenger number applies. The fixed transport fare remains payable regardless of how many passengers travel within the selected limit, plus both admissions and lunch for each actual guest according to age.
The official Hobbiton and Waitomo guided experiences and dining may be shared with other visitors. Private attraction guides or exclusive access are not included.
How do I choose Standard or Executive travel?
Choose one of six options when booking: Standard or Executive, each for up to four, six or ten passengers. Enter every guest in the correct age category, including infants and young children aged 0–3. Every passenger counts towards the selected limit. Transport is a fixed group fare; compulsory admission to both attractions and lunch are added for each actual passenger according to age.
Standard up to four uses a Toyota Camry, Highlander or similar. Standard up to six or ten uses a spacious Toyota Hiace or similar van. Executive travel uses Mercedes-Benz or equivalent vehicles, including V-Class and Sprinter options as appropriate.
Your vehicle is allocated to match the category booked and your group’s requirements. Preferred models can be requested but are subject to availability. Vehicle photos are examples.

Executive · Up to 10 passengersMercedes-Benz Sprinter or equivalent

How is the total package price calculated?
Choose a Standard or Executive vehicle option for up to four, six or ten passengers. Add its fixed transport fare to the compulsory combined admission and lunch charge for every actual guest. All advertised prices include GST. The table separates the charges for the two attractions so you can see what is included.
| Age on travel date | Hobbiton admission & lunch | Waitomo admission charged in this package | Combined charge |
|---|---|---|---|
| Adult 18+ | NZ$170 | NZ$85 | NZ$255 |
| Youth 11–17 | NZ$105 | NZ$39 | NZ$144 |
| Child 4–10 | NZ$0 | NZ$39 | NZ$39 |
| Infant / young child 0–3 | NZ$0 | NZ$0 | NZ$0 |
Waitomo’s supplier age bands differ: it charges the adult rate from age 15. For guests aged 15–17, NZ Travel Company covers the NZ$46 difference between its adult and child admission prices. Your combined youth charge remains NZ$144; there is no additional youth surcharge.
For example, Standard up to four with 1 adult, 1 youth, 1 child aged 4–10 and 1 infant aged 0–3 totals NZ$2,337. Standard up to ten with eight adults totals NZ$4,639 ($2,599 transport + 8 × $255). You pay attraction and lunch charges for the actual eight guests, rather than ten; the fixed transport fare stays unchanged.
Both admissions and lunch are compulsory parts of this package and cannot be removed. Include every guest, even where tickets are free. Use each guest’s age on the travel date. Your complete total is shown before payment.
Are both attraction admissions and lunch confirmed instantly?
Your NZ Travel Company booking confirmation is issued automatically. Admission times at both Hobbiton and Waitomo, and dining arrangements, remain subject to availability and separate confirmation by us. We will contact you promptly if changes are required and obtain your agreement before proceeding with an alternative. If we cannot secure both admissions or agree on a suitable alternative, we will offer an alternative date or a full refund of your package payment.
Bookings close four days before departure. This gives us time to arrange both admissions and dining but does not guarantee attraction availability. Your tickets are for the separately confirmed sessions; they are not open entry throughout the day. Please review the arrangements we send before travel.
What does the included lunch cover?
We aim to provide the Hobbiton Tour and Lunch Combo, featuring a buffet lunch in the Party Marquee, subject to availability. If the combo is unavailable but standard admission is available, we may propose lunch at an alternative café or restaurant, including one main meal and one non-alcoholic drink per person at no additional charge. Additional food and drinks are at your own expense. We will confirm the proposed arrangements and obtain your agreement. Dietary requirements are subject to confirmation.
The Party Marquee buffet may involve shared dining with other visitors. Please tell us about allergies and dietary requirements when booking so we can check what can be accommodated.
Where do you pick up and drop off?
Complimentary pickup and return drop-off cover your hotel, motel or other accommodation within Auckland CBD or up to 5 km by road from Britomart. Pickup is scheduled at 7:00 am. Enter the accommodation name, full address and a contactable mobile number when booking.
We will confirm your pickup arrangements before travel. Please be ready at the main entrance five minutes before your confirmed time. Return drop-off is expected around 7:00 pm, subject to traffic and confirmed admission arrangements.
Can you collect me from Auckland Airport?

Can I pay a deposit, and how do I pay the remaining balance?
Where offered at checkout, pay in full or select a 30% deposit on the complete package total, including transport, both admissions and lunch. The remaining 70% is due no later than 24 hours before scheduled pickup. Bookings close four days before departure.
Pay the balance securely through Manage my booking in your confirmation email. We also send a reminder two days before travel with a direct link to your booking portal. If a reminder does not arrive, contact us; the payment deadline still applies.
Your portal shows your current payment status. Once fully paid, download your updated ticket showing Paid in full and your latest invoice reflecting all payments received.
What are the package cancellation and change conditions?
Contact NZ Travel Company directly to cancel or request changes. Cancellation through the booking portal is not available for this package. Notice periods are measured from your scheduled Auckland pickup time, in New Zealand local time.
- At least 72 hours before pickup: receive a full refund of your package payment, including any deposit.
- At least 24 hours but less than 72 hours before pickup: the private transport component is refundable. Deductions for admission or dining are limited to actual third-party costs already committed for your booking that we cannot recover. We will explain any deduction.
- Less than 24 hours before pickup, or a no-show: payments are normally non-refundable. Any cancellation charge will not exceed the total package fare or a reasonable estimate of our loss, taking account of costs saved, supplier refunds and any replacement booking.
These conditions apply to deposit and full-payment bookings. Requested changes are subject to availability and may incur an agreed price adjustment or actual non-recoverable third-party charges. We will explain any additional cost and obtain your agreement before proceeding.
If we cannot secure both admissions or agree on a suitable alternative, we will offer an alternative date or a full refund of your package payment. If we cancel the package, you may choose an offered alternative or a full refund. Your statutory rights remain unaffected.
Email contact@nztravelcompany.co.nz with your booking reference. For urgent assistance, call +64 21 534 845 or WhatsApp us.
Can we extend our private tour?
Customer-requested extensions are subject to driver and vehicle availability and a minimum additional charge of one hour at your assigned vehicle’s hourly rate. We will confirm the cost and obtain your agreement before extending the service. Additional payment can be made through a secure payment link.
See our Hourly Chauffeur & Private Hire rates and conditions. Extensions do not guarantee a different attraction departure or additional admission.
What happens if weather or access affects the tour?
The itinerary and return timing may vary with traffic, weather, safe access and the confirmed attraction programme. We will explain any proposed material change and obtain your agreement. If we cancel the package, you may choose an offered alternative or a full refund. If a significant change is unacceptable to you, we will discuss an alternative or an appropriate refund for the affected service. Your statutory rights remain unaffected.
